Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial folds are lines that extend from the sides of the nose to the edges of the mouth. They are typically caused by facial aging which often begins to show in men and women 25 years and older. The defining characteristic of nasolabial folds appears when the face begins losing volume due to the reduction of collagen, fat, and/or elasticity. Although there is no way to completely stop these effects, Dr. Zemmel leads an experienced team of medical professionals who can make them less noticeable. When addressed by a qualified professional, these “smile lines” can be effectively diminished with a dermal filler treatment.
JUVÉDERM® XC
The cosmetic injectable we use at Dermlounge to diminish the prominence of nasolabial folds is JUVÉDERM® XC. This non-surgical treatment is formulated with hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance occurring naturally in the body that offers hydrating benefits. HA encourages collagen retention and improved elasticity, making it ideal to help remedy deep smile lines. For individuals who are unhappy with facial lines that extend from the nose to the mouth and are at least 21 years of age, a treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC could be beneficial.
Procedure
On the day of your appointment, our staff will complete a facial evaluation to determine your candidacy for a treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC. Your medical history will be reviewed as well as your aesthetic goals. To alleviate any potential discomfort, this injectable is created with lidocaine, which helps numb tissues around the treatment site. Using a very fine needle, our experienced medical staff will administer the product and massage the skin to ensure it has been evenly distributed. This will help create the most natural-looking results.
Generally, this procedure will take under one hour to complete. Subtle smoothing of the nasolabial folds can typically be seen immediately, but the extent of the increased fullness may take up to 24 hours to show.
Recovery
An ice pack may be applied after receiving a treatment for nasolabial folds with JUVÉDERM® XC. This can help reduce potential swelling or redness from the procedure. As this is a non-surgical procedure, there is minimal-to-no downtime needed, making it convenient for on-the-go individuals. Patients may wish to have a touch up treatment to maintain or further accomplish their desired aesthetic, and this can be done about 2 weeks to 1 month following the initial appointment. More of these details will be provided in the personal consultation along with any side effects that may be experienced.
